I have watched a number of photographers grow and develop an image that is distinctly theirs over the years. We also notice that most people have mastered the digital aspects of their cameras and are looking to explore how to be better photographers. The whole camera segment of what we do is changing very rapidly. While many people have not gone just to iPhones, many photographers have moved to lighter mirror less systems. He tells me the iPhone is all he uses as of late and shares some stunning images. He has owned Phase One systems, Leica and just about anything you could imagine. Now, this is a person who has purchased, as well as could afford, any camera system there is. Well, “P” comes walking down the sidewalk and I ask where he set up. I was setting up my tripod and Sony A7II with the Tamron 150-600mm zoom to shoot some details of the location we were at. This person (let’s call him “P” for now) is one of the finest photographers I have met and he is what most of us at Luminous-Landscape are–an enthusiast. A few weeks ago I was at a workshop in Buffalo and a close friend of mine was attending. We are seeing maturity in the industry as well as the audience of photographers. We have an upcoming video with Michael, Brooks Jensen and myself as we discuss what we have noticed and heard. Yes, things are changing, not just at Luminous-Landscape but also in the industry as a whole. I lay out articles, work on improvements to the site infrastructure, write articles, do videos and work with our contributors not to mention negotiate and handle workshops to make sure they are the best available in content and instruction. There is Chris who handles productions of videos and then there is me. There is Michael who writes articles and administers the Endowment. There are three of us at Luminous-Landscape. That is a lot more than you will get from almost any other site as well as from any one magazine, especially at no cost. We have added book reviews, articles on landscape photography and how to see differently, product reviews, new camera announcements, rantatorials and new workshop information. We publish a new article, on average, of every one to three days. This Rantatorial is in response to a reader who posted a comment on the forum with a view – “Is it just me or has not much been happening on LULA recently?” I posted the following comment on the forum and thought it would also be a good topic for a Rantatorial.
